Sampling and Monitoring

Sampling and monitoring has been performed at the site for various investigations for several years. The current sampling and monitoring effort is being performed by AdrianBrown in preparation of the Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis for the site that is required by the EPA. The sampling and monitoring is funded by B&B Mines which owns the site.

Sampling and monitoring involves:
  • Sampling surface and groundwater from the Wellington-Oro mine area to a location on Blue River about 4 miles north of Breckenridge.
  • Measuring groundwater levels and stream flow rates.
  • Analyzing water samples for dissolved metals and major ions.

Analytical results provide a record of changes in water levels, stream and groundwater chemistry. Results obtained before field testing of remediation alternatives illustrate natural seasonal variations in water quality, stream flow rates and groundwater levels.

During field testing of remediation alternatives, analytical results will indicate the speed and efficacy of each method of remediation tested.
